Ridley Place

Street Furniture for Newcastle Council as part of the City Centre Transformation Programme

We are immensely proud to be working with Newcastle Council and master planners LDA to deliver the public-facing furniture interventions in and around Northumberland Street.

We joined the council's design team to develop LDA's concepts into a set of deliverable designs which we have been crafted in our workshops in the nearby Ouseburn Valley.

For Ridley Place we have produced seating planters and parklets that bookend the street. These are almost monumentally huge pieces of furniture, made from hefty 3" iroko staves, and flanked by thick steel panels with a rivet and strap detail.

The steel components are finished in a marine-grade paint system which allows for simplified maintenance.

Within the structures are laser-cut galvanised steel frameworks, which were meticulously designed to provide all the necessary fixing points for the cladding materials. Please see our fabrication project page for images of this process.
